In order for Divvit to work as expected, we have to tag and map your traffic. We have a couple of different ways of doing this, as explained below.

Tagging your traffic can be done in a couple of ways, which I have explained below:

A) Via specific parameters on the links to the site
(e.g., UTM: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1033867)

Example url with Google Utm Tag:
www.mypage.com/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social_ppc&utm_campaign=xmas2018

Source= Facebook  |  Medium= Social PPC (Paid)  |  Campaign: Xmas2018

B) Via information sent automatically from the site the visitor comes from
(referred to as referer: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_referer)

C) Via Divvit tagging

When a visit comes to your site, we look at where it came from in the following order:

  1. Are Divvit parameters available?
  2. Are UTM parameters available?
  3. Are there any referers?

When the answer is yes, then that method is used and we will not move on to the others. Should the answer be no to all three - then the visit ends as "Direct".

If you have a lot of traffic from "Direct" this could mean that traffic is not tagged properly.

You will not have to change any of your existing UTM tags to be compatible with Divvit.

Divvit tagging

There are two parameters you can add to your URL. Those are dv_chgroup and dv_channel

Whenever possible you should sort your traffic into the following channel groups (dv_chgroup) and channels (dv_channel). In case you are working with a channel that is not listed, you can create your own tag for it. Please stick to the provided channel groups.

Example url with Divvit Tags:

www.mypage.com/?dv_chgroup=social_ppc&dv_channel=facebook&dv_campaign=xmas2018

Source= Facebook  |  Medium= Social PPC (Paid)  |  Campaign: Xmas2018

All available channel groups and channels can be found here

If we don't recognize your tagging, we will tag it with "Unknown" in Divvit. All you have to do, is navigate to app.divvit.com/settings/unmapped and click the parameter, and then choose your channel group and channel on the right hand side.
